The Congressional Black Caucus Announces Almost 100 Employers and Counting Participating in the “For the People” Jobs Initiative Job Fairs

Over 10,000 real jobs will be created!

Washington, DC – This August, thousands will gather for town hall meetings, job fairs, and job readiness workshops and seminars as a part of the Congressional Black Caucus For the People Jobs Initiative. We are pleased that almost 100 employers with a large number of available jobs have signed up to improve the dismal unemployment situation in our communities. The CBC looks forward to even more joining in the fight to end unemployment. As reported, African American unemployment remains stagnant at 16.2%, and the wealth gap between whites and people of color is the largest it has been in decades.  It has become clear that the time for immediate and real action to provide hard working Americans with real economic opportunities is now. “We want to get 10,000 people hired”, said Chairman Emanuel Cleaver, “If you have jobs, we have hundreds of people who need them”, he added. “As Washington continues the see-saw game on the debt ceiling, real people are suffering. We are pleased that many of our nation’s companies have stepped up to the plate to help remedy the crisis”, Cleaver said. The “For the People” Jobs Initiative begins on August 8, 2011 in Cleveland, Ohio and will continue throughout the month of August ending in Los Angeles, California. A current list of employers are included below.
