Washington, DC – Chairman Emanuel Cleaver, II released the following statement on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Appointment as Chair of the Democratic National Committee:
“On behalf of the Democratic Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, I congratulate my classmate, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, on being appointed as the Chair of the Democratic National Committee. It has been twenty years since the Democratic Party has had a woman as Chair, but there is no better person for the job.
“Congresswoman Wasserman Shultz’s passion for our country and party is palpable. I am certain that she will lead the party with vision and tenacity as we work to responsibly reduce the deficit, create jobs for the American people, provide educational opportunities for our children, and ensure that hardworking families have access to affordable healthcare.
“I look forward to working with the Congresswoman as she leads the Democratic Party through 2012 and I am confident that she will be an exceptional Chair.”
