Readout of the CBC’s National Black Leadership Summit on the Jobs Crisis

Washington, DC – Today, the Congressional Black Caucus held a National Black Leadership Summit on the Jobs Crisis in preparation for its “For the People” Jobs Initiative. During this roundtable discussion, Chairman Cleaver, CBC Members, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., Dr. Michael Eric Dyson and many others discussed the tough economic climate faced by the American people. They stressed the importance of a targeted effort to help reduce the staggeringly high unemployment numbers within the African American community, and vowed to work together to ensure African American unemployment gets the national attention it deserves. They also discussed the more than 40 jobs bills introduced by members of the CBC during the 112th Congress. In the first of many meetings, both the CBC and leaders representing national organizations agreed that the job crisis is their top priority.
