Chairman Cleaver Votes Against the Republican Leadership’s So-Called Small Business Tax Cut Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Chairman Emanuel Cleaver released the following statement after voting against the House Republicans’ so-called Small Business Tax Cut Act:
“Today, the House Republican Leadership demonstrated their allegiance to millionaires and billionaires with another proposed tax cut. H.R. 9 does nothing to address the paramount concern of small business owners – business opportunities and economic growth. This bill will create zero jobs, increase the deficit by $46 billion, and will hand out an average of $58,800 tax cuts to over a hundred thousand millionaires.
“Members of the Congressional Black Caucus strongly support small businesses. Millions of hard-working Americans secure their families’ futures and well being through their businesses. The last thing American small business owners need is to be bamboozled when they truly need assistance. This bill benefits the wealthy. The Democratic Leadership offered an alternative bill that would have created jobs, spurred investment and helped small businesses grow – not give out tax cuts for the wealthy. I urge my Republican colleagues to listen to the voices of the American people and take a closer look at the millions of suffering American people. Trickle down economics does not work, has not worked, and will never work. It is high time we look after the well being of all Americans and not just the select few.”
