CBC Chairman Cleaver’s Statement on 9/11 Anniversary
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver, II released the following statement today in recognition of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:
“Today, the Congressional Black Caucus remembers the thousands of innocent lives that were lost eleven years ago during one of the most horrific attacks on our nation’s soil. We honor their memory and the legacy of the first responders and civilian heroes who sacrificed their lives that day, in order to save their fellow Americans. As we reflect on this tragic day in our nation’s history, our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends.
“We also thank the men and women of our Armed Forces who protect our national security and prevent terrorist threats from reaching our borders. It is because of their valiant and selfless action that Osama bin Laden is no longer a threat and our national security has been strengthened.
“The Congressional Black Caucus remains committed to policies that protect our homeland. We will also continue to fervently support policies that give our troops the resources they need to fulfill their missions at home and abroad, and that provide them the assistance they deserve once they return home.
“September 11th is a day our country will never forget. We will also never forget how, on that day, we united as a nation to support our neighbors, families and friends who had been affected by this great tragedy, reminding us that we are all Americans and that we are truly all in this together. May God bless the United States of America.”
